FAQ — FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Welcome to Albergue de Peregrinos do Porto! Here you will find all the essential information to help you plan your stay with us.

  1. Reception & Check-In / Check-Out
  • What are the reception hours?
    • Check-In: 2:30 pm – 8:00 pm
    • Check-Out: until 9:30 am
    • Note: Portugal operates on GMT (UTC+0) timezone. Please keep this in mind so we can respect the Albergue’s schedule!
  • Can I enter or exit the albergue at night?
    • Yes! The entrance door is equipped with a code system, allowing you to enter and exit whenever you like.
  • Can I drop off my backpack early?
    • Yes, if you arrive early in Porto, you can drop off your backpack between 9:00 am and 12:30 pm. Our check-in time starts at 14:30.
    • From 12-30 till 14-30 Albergue closed for cleaning and lunch time.
    • You can come back for check in in afternoon between 14-30 and 20-00.
  1. Eligibility & Stay Policy
  • Who can stay at the Albergue?
    • Our Albergue is exclusively for pilgrims walking or cycling the Camino de Santiago.
  • How many days can I stay?
    • Pilgrims are welcome at any stage of their journey — starting, during, or after finishing their Camino. You are invited to stay multiple days to rest, recover, and explore Porto.
  • Do you sell the Credencial (Pilgrim Passport)?
    • Yes! The official Portuguese Camino Credencial is available at reception for 2€.
  1. Rooms & Capacity
  • What type of accommodation do you offer?
    • Shared Dorms: We have 6 shared rooms with a total capacity of 40 pilgrims:
      • Two 4-bed rooms
      • Two 6-bed rooms
      • One 8-bed room
      • One 12-bed room
    • Private Rooms:
      • 2 private rooms with private bathroom (each room accommodates 1 to 3 guests).
  1. Facilities & Amenities
  • What facilities are available?
    • Storage & Power: Private lockers with key and individual power plugs for each bed.
    • Kitchen: Fully equipped kitchen with cooking pots, microwave, refrigerator, water boiler, plates, utensils, and coffee.
    • Laundry: Washing machine, tumble dryer, hand washing sink, and clothesline.
    • Outdoors & Relaxation: Garden with hammock and Wi-Fi access throughout.
  • Can I store or ship my bicycle?
    • Yes, you can store your bike in our garden during your stay.
    • If you wish to have your bicycle delivered to the Albergue prior to your arrival, a 5€ service fee applies for receiving and storing it before your check-in.
  • Are pets allowed?
    • We are pet-friendly! Please inform us in advance if you plan to arrive with an animal.
  1. How to Get Here

Address: R. do Barão de Forrester 954, 4050-272 Porto, Portugal.

We are directly on the Camino route, 2,8 km from the Cathedral and a 15-minute walk from the city center of Porto.

The Most Easy, Cheap, and Fast Way to Reach the Albergue

  • From the Airport:
    • Take the Metro. It takes around 30 to 60 minutes from the airport to Metro station “Carolina Michaelis”.
    • Go to the opposite platform (be careful when crossing the tracks). You will find a staircase that leads to the street (you can also use the elevator). Turn right there and left at the next street corner. The Albergue de Peregrinos do Porto is on the right-hand side of the street (less than a 3-minute walk from metro).
  • From Campanhã:
    • Take the Metro. It takes around 15 to 20 minutes to Metro station “Carolina Michaelis”.
    • When you arrive at the station, you will find a staircase that leads to the street (you can also use the elevator). Turn right there and left at the next street corner. The Albergue de Peregrinos do Porto is on the right-hand side of the street (less than a 3-minute walk from metro).

  • Who operates the Albergue?
    • We are a private Albergue that counts with the dedicated support of amazing volunteers come from all over the world, and you will always find support here. They are always ready to share their experience and assist you along your stay in the Albergue!
  • Want to become a volunteer?
    • If you have completed the Camino and wish to give back to the pilgrim community, you are welcome to join us! Please fill out the volunteer application form on our website and come to serve and support fellow pilgrims.
  1. Cancellation & Prepayment Policy

We created this policy to offer maximum flexibility in unforeseen circumstances while protecting our operation.

  • Private Rooms:
    • A 50% prepayment is required to confirm your reservation.
    • Cancellations made 7 days or more before arrival receive a prepayment refund (minus a small processing fee).
    • Cancellations made less than 7 days before arrival or no-shows are non-refundable.
  • Group Bookings (5 people or more):
    • A 50% prepayment is required to confirm.
    • Cancellations made 7 days or more before arrival receive a refund (minus processing fee).
    • Cancellations made less than 7 days before arrival are non-refundable.
    • Individual cancellations within a group made 1 day or more in advance will not be charged.
  • Cancellation for Shared Dorms:

Since we do not charge any prepayment for shared dorm beds, cancellations can be made at any time. However, out of respect for yourself, fellow pilgrims, and the Albergue, we kindly ask you to inform us as soon as your plans change. This allows us to offer your bed to another pilgrim in need.
